Prospect Park Zoo

Luna continues to plow through her reading lessons.  On Saturday, she finished lesson 90!  So that meant we (all four of us) were off to the zoo as her reward.  I decided we would try out Prospect Park Zoo over in Brooklyn.  The weather was beautiful for March, sunny and in the 60s.  Since it was St. Patrick's Day we had our green on.

The girls loved the zoo, I was surprised by how much fun they had.  Last time we went to the zoo was last summer and I felt like Rachel never really saw anything.  I would try to point out the animals but unless they were close and moving she had a hard time.  But this time she saw so much more and really loved it.  Luna just loved the adventure and always ready to move on to the next exhibit.

They had a prairie dog exhibit where the girls could crawl up into the little bubbles and see the prairie dogs up close and personal.  The zoo was surprisingly quiet for a gorgeous Saturday, which made it all the more pleasant.  This zoo was on the small side, you can see it all in a afternoon.

I think the kids loved the barn animals the most because they got to feed them.  One of the sheep licked Rachel's hand and she is still talking about it.  She was not so sure of the geese (pictured below) and refused to look at the camera so that she could keep an eye on them.  One had just nipped a lady :) The girls also watched a sea lion feeding, and got to see some pretty active Red Pandas.

The girls love having picnics, so we also enjoyed a picnic lunch at the zoo.  We spent a total of 2.5 hours there and saw every exhibit.  So far we have been to the Central Park Zoo, Bronx Zoo and Prospect Park Zoo.  The Bronx Zoo by far is the best, by far.  It is also the most expensive though.
